I am a researcher, curator, and organizer interested in religion and politics in South Asia and the South Asian diaspora. I am pursuing a PhD in Religion at Emory University, where my focus area is South Asian Religions.
Recently, as a 2024-25 Luce Scholar, I was affiliated with the International Centre for Ethnic Studies in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where I taught a course on "Religion and Resistance in Sri Lanka and Beyond."
I curate Voices of Bhakti, a digital archive showcasing translations of South Asian poetry on religion, caste, and gender. I am an advisory board member of Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus, and I previously worked with Hindus for Human Rights and the Aspen Institute’s Religion & Society Program. I have consulted for organizations such as GreenFaith, Tasveer, and the International Commission for Dalit Rights. I have also conducted quantitative and qualitative research at the World Bank, Stimson Center, and the University of Washington.
As a journalist, I have reported from India, South Africa, and the United States. My writing and reporting has been published in several outlets, such as Religion News Service, Foreign Policy, Religion Dispatches, and Religion Unplugged, and has been supported by the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting. I’ve been quoted and interviewed by publications including BBC World Service, Al Jazeera, Huffington Post, Jewish Currents, and The Wire.
As a public speaker, I’ve presented at national and international forums including the 2018, 2021, and 2023 Parliaments of World's Religions. I have served as a guest lecturer for high-school, undergraduate, and graduate classes at several institutions. I’ve also presented my work at academic conferences at Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature, trying out new recipes, and learning Carnatic music.
